Jazz hip hop breathes life into the streets and waterways of Beijing, and the country’s premier rockabilly trope hits the European road.
Rolling Bowling – 2107 Germany/Czech Republic Tour
Beijing’s premier rockabilly outfit Rolling Bowling have been hitting the road hard, most notably in Europe, since they’ve joined the Modern Sky team, and from the looks of it, they’re having a blast. Photographer and videographer Chen Xingyuan accompanied the band of their latest European tour – a ten day road trip through Germany and the Czech Republic. It’s an endearing, insightful little window into the experiences many Chinese bands face on the international circuit.
Itsogoo – Universal Islanders宇宙岛民
One of Beijing’s most underrated hip hop group itsogoo return with this vinyl loving music video for their title track off their latest LP – Universal Islanders – an intoxicating soul infused old school romp that brings to mind everyone from Madlib to Digable Planets. The two rappers trade wax and pay their respects to the jazz hip-hop gods whilst bopping around Beijing. Unassuming, fresh, and paints Beijing in a surprisingly romantic light. Dig it.
